Days such as today are of course primarily celebratory, but for me this year they are also tinged with sadness as not only do we say goodbye to all of our leavers, but I am also going on a one-year secondment with the Local Authority, as a School Improvement Advisor.

In our last assembly of the year, Mrs McGeehan reflected on the words of Mr. Tushman - the school principal from the book ‘Wonder’.

“IF EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN HOLY TRINITY MADE IT A RULE THAT WHEREVER YOU ARE, WHENEVER YOU CAN, YOU WILL TRY TO ACT A LITTLE KINDER THAN IS NECESSARY – THE WORLD REALLY WOULD BE A  BETTER PLACE. AND IF YOU DO THIS, IF YOU ACT JUST A LITTLE KINDER THAN IS NECESSARY, SOMEONE ELSE, SOMEWHERE, SOMEDAY, MAY RECOGNIZE IN YOU, IN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU, THE FACE OF GOD.”

What a wonderful thought that is!

Thank you:

I would like to thank you, the parents, who teach more to your children through their day-to-day dealings than we ever could in the short time they are exposed to us.

I would like to thank the Governors who read the information we provide and help set the strategic direction for the year to come, all giving time voluntarily, and for allowing me the opportunity to further develop as a leader.

The PTA, who provide such wonderful events and resources to the school.

To the teaching assistants who provide the essential support for our pupils and often go above and beyond to ensure that HT is the school it is.

My Office staff, who are the backbone of our school, welcoming visitors on a daily basis and who work so hard to ensure the school runs smoothly.

Lastly, I would like to thank the teachers who work extremely hard for your children. Their job is huge; it is ever changing and is dynamic. We are constantly in a pattern of change and for teachers to remain as sane as they are, (well, mostly!) is amazing.

I would therefore like to thank them for all the opporutnities they have provided for your children this year. I will miss you all!

I would like to say farewell to our Year 6s who are heading off to Secondary school. Many of them have been with us from the age of four. They are a group of children who have set the tone for the school and have led the way in learning and in achievements on many fronts: academic, sporting and cultural. They have been real ambassadors for our school and they have exhibited all the Gospel values we celebrate time and time again.

I believe that it is the top year group in any school that really sets the tone for the year, and this year’s cohort have led the school wonderfully. They have worked hard, played hard and – individually and collectively – they are amazing!

I wish them all the best. In the end of term Mass, my advice to our leavers was to ‘Aspire not to have more, but to be more’ and hopefully their time at Holy Trinity has prepared them to become the people I know they can be.

Finally, I wish you all an amazing summer and thank you for another wonderful year. I look forward to returning in September 2025!
